Hot yoga has been credited with many benefits, from improving balance to sculpting Pink’s chiseled abs. If you’re wondering just what hot yoga is and how you may be able to benefit from it—we’ve got answers.
Hot Yoga – What it is
Hot yoga is exactly what it sounds like – yoga performed in a hot temperature studio. It’s typically practiced in a studio that’s about 105 degrees F, and utilizes one of the more vigorous forms of yoga, such as Bikram. The Bikram hot yoga program consists of a 90-minute session during which you perform various strenuous yoga poses that require the lengthy holding of postures, prompting forceful and sustained contractions of your body’s major muscle groups.
The combination of vigorous exercise and high temperature serve to elevate your heart rate and provide a more strenuous exercise for your muscles than regular yoga or other exercise would.
Who Benefits Most?
The benefits of hot yoga include things like an increased fitness level and ability to endure uncomfortable conditions. However, due to the nature of hot yoga, people who suffer from heart disease, chronic dehydration, or heat-related illnesses (such as a history of heat stroke) should probably stay away from it.
