Getting started with a Yoga routine is one of the best decisions you can make for your overall health and wellness. Through practicing Yoga, you can build a stronger connection between your mind and body. You’ll learn to release and let go of stress, and build a stronger, more flexible you. It can be a little intimidating at first, watching people who have been practicing for a while perform poses you might only dream of, but it’s important to remember that everyone starts somewhere. No matter how inflexible you may be at the start, you can achieve anything you want through consistent practice and effort.
Yoga for Beginners
No matter how far you want to go, you have to start at the beginning, and Iyengar Yoga is easily one of the most beginner-friendly styles. It was introduced in the mid-1960s by B.K.S. Iyengar and is described by its creator as “Pure Ashtanga Yoga, known as the eight limbs of Yoga.” Iyengar tends to be slower-paced and incorporates props, such as: straps, blocks, bolsters, and blankets – all of which which will aid practitioners with the more challenging postures. Iyengar Yoga is intended to be taught in a way that allows progress to be steady but gradual as students are guided through a safe and systematic progression. While Iyengar Yoga is beginner-friendly, it shouldn’t be taken lightly. Like all forms of Yoga, Iyengar includes very difficult postures that will require a lot of work and patience to build up to.
